The Pisgah Institute, P.A. (TPI) is in our 32nd year of practice. Through all of the changes in the health field, including mental-health reorganization, the struggle for parity between medical- and mental-health insurance coverage, the arrival of integrated care, the pandemic and telehealth, and the challenges of Medicaid expansion, as well as Hurricane Helene, TPI has continued to serve the mental-health needs of the Western North Carolina community and others. We have treated more than two to three thousand patients in each of the last few years.
In 1993 Highland Hospital, a world-famous private psychiatric hospital founded in 1904, closed. Nine Highland psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and social workers struck out to start TPI. Thirty two years later, TPI is the most comprehensive behavioral-health practice in Western North Carolina.
Our psychiatrists, doctoral clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, master’s level therapist, physician assistant, and nurse provide a wide range of up-to-date, theoretically and empirically valid, and effective psychological and psychiatric mental-health care for children, adolescents, adults, and families from North Carolina and the other southeastern and southern states. Consultations for diagnosis and treatment planning, psychiatric medication prescription and management, and individual, family, couple, and group psychotherapies are among TPI’s services. We also provide psychological, career, and educational testing and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a relatively new treatment for depression. We are investigating newer avenues for enhancing our diagnostic and treatment effectiveness, as well. Our clinicians have a track record of professional publications and presentations in our areas of expertise and of leadership in our local, state, and national professional associations. We have participated in clinical-research projects, including a recent study of EEG-guided medication treatment for depression.
We are a professionally managed corporation and practice.
